What about Jacob??

So, I realized that you may all be wondering...what is Jacob doing these days? My bad for not filling you in...I tend to get a little caught up in my own life and forget to fill you in! Believe it or not, Jacob has been in Florida for a little over 3 weeks. So far he is doing really well. The first 3 weeks were the toughest because they had to wake up by 5am and had class and workouts and mandatory night study until 8pm! Talk about a long day! Luckily for Jacob, it paid off. On his first test, dive physics, he got 100%. And then he took a dive medicine test and got 82%. On the physical end of things, he is dominating in the pool. Also, they do 1000 yard bay swims (across the bay) and he has passed every time, normally with the first 2 or 3 guys in his class.

Last week, he hit a road block when they went into the compression chamber. The compression chamber is kind of like a tiny room where they seal the door and increase the pressure to simulate water pressure on your body during a dive. Jacob had trouble clearing his ears, leading to a middle ear squeeze. That means that the pressure on his ears was a little too great. Luckily, it didn't escalate to the point where his inner ear was blowing up! Since then, he hasn't had much of problem. A squeeze can be caused by a few things, like having a cold while diving, or wearing a mask too tightly around your ears.

This week, Jacob started practice dives in the pool at the training center. They've been practicing using different types of masks (and hard helmets!) and air regulation before they go out in the ocean to try it out.

Jacob likes Florida a LOT more than Chicago. He loves living on the beach and the warm weather. Also, his room is way nicer in Florida, he even gets a TV! Now that mandatory night study is over he is way less stressed and is finally enjoying his "real training." Only 3 and a half months until he graduates! I'll try harder to keep everyone updated with diving school from now on~

Party Like it's Your Birthday!

Today I turned 20! No more being a teenager for me!

Last night Amanda, Sarah, and Preston took me out for Thai food! Yes! I love Thai food.

I had a lot of fun with them telling stories and laughing.

Then, when we got home Amanda waxed my eyebrows for me...except we accidentally took a little skin with it...

I have to say, I thought it was pretty funny.

Also since it was my birthday, Jacob and I ichatted for awhile. I love ichat!

Then, right as I was getting ready for bed (because I was sick this weekend! Lame, i know), there was a knock at the door. So, I opened it and who should be standing there but Gabe DeGomez. And he came bearing birthday brownies. It was very sweet of him, Gabe's a good friend for sure.

The lighting of the candles...

He even used pink candles!

Also, I got some pretty dang good presents this year...

1. Sam is taking me to see Carrie Underwood in May!!
2. Madeline and Emily got me all the accent pieces for my future kitchen!
3. My mom sent me cute, sophisticated "big girl" flip flops...no more Old Navy!
4. Amanda got me awesome bling.
5. Sarah got me a super cute shirt and matching necklace.
and 6....I'M GOING TO FLORIDA ON THURSDAY!!! I can't WAIT! It's kind of a joint present...Partly a present from Jacob, partly my present to myself, and partly a one year anniversary present! I'm so excited to go be on the beach and see Jacob.

Thanks for all the "Happy Birthdays" and for celebrating with me!

Spring Break!

Spring Break was AMAZING. It was way too short, but I loved being at home and spending time with my family. I'm so happy there are only 6 weeks left of school so I can move home and transition into full-on wedding planning! Here's just some of the progress I made...

  • I registered for wedding stuff with my mom.
  • I found THE place for the wedding, and I am in love with it.
  • I changed my wedding colors/flowers! Much more summery.
  • I picked out bridesmaid dresses.
  • Hung out/went shopping with Sam!
  • Took Madeline to try on her bridesmaid dress and see the location.
  • Took Emily to try on her bridesmaid dress.
  • Looked into invitations.
  • Found my cake topper.
So, needless to say it was a busy week, and there is so much more to plan! Hopefully Jacob will have a date soon and the countdown will begin!

Counting Down.

I have come to find that when I am anticipating a big event, time goes more quickly when I count down to little events along the way. So, I'm going to make a list of all the "little" things that are going to happen before Jacob graduates from Diving School so you can see how fast it really will go by!

1. My Birthday!
Lilypie Kids Birthday tickers

2. School's DONE and I get to move back to Vegas!

3. I tentatively make a trip to Panama City...

Panama City

Well...today Jacob is off to the next phase in his Navy Adventure...DIVE SCHOOL! In Panama City, Florida. Hooyah for getting out of the cold, miserable Chicago! I'm pretty excited for him. And the best part is that in just 3 short weeks I will have an officially official, invitations-in-the-mail, mark it on your calendars in pen wedding date! Hooyah! (Sorry, I'll stop with those as soon as the Navy pride wears off!) So, needless to say we're both pretty excited.

While Jacob is here, I'll still be in Flagstaff =[ Where it snowed again last night!
How nice does that white sand look??

Corey and Lydia!

This weekend, Corey and Lydia stopped in Flagstaff on their way to the Valley. It was so beyond amazing having them back in town, even if it was just a quick visit. I love hanging out with them and talking because we have great conversations. I miss them already!

100!

This is my 100th post!

Hooyah!

(I've spent all of today watching Navy Seal Class 234 go through BUD/s training...)

Growing up...

is hard, scary, frustrating, busy, overwhelming, new, challenging, and unexpected.

But, it's totally worth it!

No more Chicago!

I just got back from what was, hopefully, my last trip to Chicago! No offense to the midwest...but I do not particularly enjoy spending any part of the winter there. But, nonetheless, my trip was so fun. I got there Friday night and Jacob and I ordered pizza and watched a movie and went swimming in the pool in our hotel room!

Our rental car...Jacob wasn't particularly thrilled with the color. And let's be honest...it is kind of ugly.

Saturday we went and looked around the base and took care of some "Navy Business". Jacob also took me to see the NEX, which is kind of like a mall just for people in the military. Everything is a little bit cheaper, and there's no tax! We went to lunch at Olive Garden and it was so nice to just get to sit and talk and be together. I have learned to not take moments like that for granted! After lunch we went to the mall and shopped together...Jacob won a 40% card at Guess...so obviously it only made sense to pick some things out. It was amazingly fun getting to shop with Jacob and hear his opinions and see what he would find to have me try on. I ended up brining a few things home...thanks babe! We spent the rest of the night watching the Olympics, critiquing the figure skaters, and having a McDonald's picnic (no visit with Jacob is ever complete without at least one trip to McDonald's...).

There were some girl scouts outside the NEX and Jacob and I both wanted some Samoa's (Carmel Delights for you Vegas people) but the booth was sold out! But that didn't stop us...we came back a few hours later. I guess we were a little over enthusiastic...but they were so good!

Sunday came way too fast, just like it always does. We had breakfast at the hotel really early...Jacob still functions on his military time which usually means I get woken up around 5am. After breakfast we took a nap and hung out watching the military channel until we went to Outback for lunch! Aussie Cheese Fries never tasted so good. A few hours later I was already on my way back to airport...it was a quick weekend, but definitely worth the trip.

And here's the best part! Jacob graduates from pre-dive on THURSDAY! That means he gets to go down to Florida...and leave Chicago behind! I'm very excited that he gets to get out of the cold and I get to visit him on the beach...hopefully soon!

Lone Survivor

I just finished reading this book, and it was really good! It's about a Navy Seal team performing a secret mission in the middle east. It really opened my eyes to a lot of things and made me extremely grateful and proud to know Jacob is serving our country. The book is intense and sad, but reading about these men and what they have endured is truly incredible. I recommend!
