Decisions, Decisions...

What should baby Zoey be for Halloween??

I was leaning towards the bumble bee...until I saw the hippo.

and finally...The Milk Paint, Dry Smeared, coastal cottage dresser!

The dresser is finally finished!
Although, I could say "finished" is a relative word, because I keep seeing things I want to do.
But I'm forcing myself to stop.
{must. forget. the. pull incident.}

I was inspired by Julia's rustic 3 drawer chest over at 551 East. She is insanely talented in this department. I don't know how she even came up with the idea of dry smearing. But she did. And it's amazing.

But enough talk...here she is!
And the Before and After
{I know, I know. I need a nicer camera ASAP!}

I love it! It says "Coastal Cottage" to me...and who doesn't love that??

the pull incident

The dresser is coming! But I have hit about 12 speed bumps along the way. It started with changing the color, then trying to find knobs and pulls, finding knobs and pulls that didn't fit and now just taking a break because I am about to pull my hair out!!

It is SO close. But everytime something starts to look amazing it doesn't work out.

Today I went to an antique mall in search of the perfect pulls. I already knew I wanted them mismatched and figured that couldn't be too hard to find. Well. It was.

Antiquing is not for the faint of heart people.

Do you see the pulls and knobs in this picture?? I swear they are there.
how bout this one??
and I just found this one wonderfully ironic at the time.

But anyway...enough of my antiquing woes. I did learn a thing or too and I shall address that later this week.

So, after searching endlessly I found 3 mis matched vintage pulls {i already had one at home that came with the dresser} and 2 knobs. I get home, spray paint them, they look amazing, run them upstairs where I am staging the dresser and go know, they don't fit. Lovely.

Apparently my dresser does not have the typical hole spacing for pulls. My hopes and dreams are crushed. Really. The mismatched thing was going to work, trust me. But now I am settling for all knobs which I am still mustering the lackluster enthusiasm to spray paint. So that will get done tomorrow and very hopefully look charming.

And I will leave you with this last epic failure and hope you don't lose complete faith in my furniture refinishing abilities...
Ahhhhhh! I know. Trust me, I fix it.

Can't Wait!

(Horrible Before Picture...I know)

I have big plans for this dresser.

Thrifted for 20 bucks y'all!
(for some reason I get really lucky at finding the perfect pieces on the first shot. But I probably just jinxed myself.)

They involve milk paint, foam brushes, and dry smearing.

I forgot to take a before picture before I sanded the top...and yes those are dust particles floating in the air and ruining my picture.

Here's a hint. The top was the only thing I sanded.

Here's another hint - milk paint is the best thing that ever happened to me and my furniture refinishing self. The best.

Babies

My adorable nieces and nephews had a photoshoot with the wonderful Prissy Piggies Photography {who you may remember from here}. I just wanted to brag about how adorable they are =) So. You can check out the rest of the pictures here.

This Dog...

We may or may not love Zoey like a human. Pathetic, I know.

Homesick

I am SO homesick. I want to be home. Even watching Grey's Anatomy makes me homesick for Seattle, which isn't even my actual home. But it's way more like home to me than Virginia Beach will ever be. So there.
